On December 12, 2018, Kathryn Johnson, Dean of the Confucius Institute of St. Cloud State University in America led a delegation to visit Jilin International Studies University (JISU) and processed a negotiation on sign language education cooperation. Ding Chuang, Deputy Director of Jilin Provincial Training Center of Foreign Language Education participated in the meeting. Wang Jie, Assistant President and Director of International Exchanges and Cooperation, on behalf of JISU extended a warm welcome to the delegation.
In the conference room on the fourth floor of the library, representatives of both sides had an in-depth communication and exchange about the cooperation of sign language education. It has been agreed that the U.S. side will set up American sign language elective courses in our school and guide the construction of a sign language major, in order to gradually expand the cooperation between Chinese and American sign language education majors. The United States will send a student delegation to our school for exchange and study. The two sides also exchanged views on signing a memorandum of cooperation and cooperation in other fields.
St. Cloud State University is a four-year public university. It is the largest university in Minnesota's education system and was founded in 1869. The university has a School of Business, School of Arts and Humanities, School of Science and Engineering, a graduate School of Social Sciences, a continuing education center and international student center, among other departments. It is also the first university in the Minnesota college and university system to provide doctoral degrees.
This negotiation has promoted the communication and cooperation of sign language education projects between our school and St. Cloud State University, and will play a substantial role in promoting the construction of sign language translation courses and the professional development of translation between the two universities.
