Our Confucius Institute held a celebration of National Day and Mid-Autumn Festival at Learning Community Charter School and New Jersey City University on September 29th and October 4th, 2017 respectively.
On Sep.29, 2017, the CI teachers gave a lecture on Mid-Autumn Festival for 150 students in Learning Community Charter School. The students got to know the origin, customs and the fable story of the festival. They learned the history and culture of China by singing Chinese song, festival greetings and interactive questions and answers.
On a warm and sunny October 4, 2017, with the help of the Nai-Ni Chen Dance Company, the CI held National Day and Mid-Autumn Festival celebration party. The Confucius Institute faculty and staff coordinated the entire event, which boasted an audience of approximate 200, including NJCU students, staff, faculty, students and teachers from Innovation, Liberty, A Harry Moore, and Dickinson High School and the local citizens.
The party began with the national flag rising ceremony. Nai-Ni Chen Dance Company performed the dragon dance and ribbon dance-forms of traditional dances very popular in Chinese culture during festivals. Performance after performance showed traditional Chinese music, dances and songs. The party ended with the song “Ode to the Motherland”. After the show were trays of spring rolls, dumplings, and most important of all: mooncakes.
Local people in the United States praised the event. They said this help them strengthen their understanding of Chinese culture.
